How to set goals you will actually follow!
Do you set a New Year’s goal every year? Is it the same goal over and over, promising yourself that you’ll actually see it through?
If you have answered Yes, know that you are not alone. Many people are stuck in a cycle of setting goals and forgetting about them.
When you set goals, you take control of your life, or your work. Goals provide you with focus. The decisions you make and actions you take will bring you closer to achieving your goals. When you set goals, you create a vision of what your life or business could look it and then you start pushing yourself to get the best results.
In order to achieve our goals, we have to plan the steps to get there.
Here are some steps to get started:
1. Think about the results you want to see.
Before you set a goal, take a closer look at what you’re trying to achieve and ask yourself “Is this goal what I truly want?” and “Is it important enough to invest all the hours and effort to achieve it?” If you are not willing to put in the time, it may not be worth it.
2. Write your goals down
When you write your goals down, they become real and tangible instead of an idea that is running around in your head. Put your goal where you can see it throughout the day. This tactic reminds you to keep working on your goals daily.
3. Create an action plan.
Your action plan should include the overall goal and the steps needed to get there. Get creative use colour and stickers make attractive to the eye and this also activate the brain to cement the goal in your mind. Plan your steps and look at working backwards from your goal.
4. Practice selfcare and reward yourself along the way.
Allow time for your wellbeing, is it vital to your success, taking time for you will empower your action steps, time spent in nature or in meditation will bring more ideas and inspiration. Reward yourself for every action step taken and when your achievements bring you closer to goal.
So, instead of drifting along reacting to what life brings you, set goals and create the life you want. While we often can’t control what is going on around us, we can control ourselves by setting goals to achieve our dreams.
