Letting go and embrace the festive season
“Tis the season to be jolly”….That’s a lovely idea, but in reality it can be more of a “Tis the season to be freaking out”
As joyful and fun as Christmas is meant to be, stress has a knack of building up.
So, what can we do? We can’t cancel Christmas, but what we can do is manage ourselves and how we respond to the additional pressure.
Here are a few ways to let go and enjoy the season.
1. Get up 30 minutes earlier.
The benefits that you will get from giving yourself that time in the morning is huge. Doing your grounding or meditation or a short yoga practice can set you up for a great day.
2. Let go of perfection
Be okay with making mistakes, perfection puts so much pressure on the season. Relax and just do things the way you want to do them. If you are relaxed and happy, so will everyone else.
3. Make time everyday just for you
Don’t put yourself last, you will end up running on empty. So, before that happens, make a little time every day(even just 10 minutes) to do something for you, go for a walk, sit and enjoy a cup of tea of coffee. Do something small every day that fills your internal cup will help you feel relaxed and energized.
4. Stay present
Stress and anxiety projects us forward to the future as we worry about what’s going to unfold. So, anchor yourself in the present moment by becoming aware of what’s going on around you, if you’re mind starts to race off just gently bring it back to the details and notice how you feel after a few minutes.
5. Be still
When we are frazzled, its because we are on a treadmill, not knowing how to get off. Take 5 mins and ground, completely connecting into the earth, bring your awareness to the breath, just be still, when the body is still the mind will slow down and rest.
Letting go of stress and expectations are key to enjoying the festive season. Just take a moment to really tune in to what the season means to you and what you would like to bring to it. Then, relax and enjoy!
